(Reuters) – Baxter International on Monday said that it aims to restore the number of new patients able to begin using its peritoneal dialysis solutions to pre-Hurricane Helene levels by the end of the year. Previously, the company had asked doctors and healthcare professionals to limit new dialysis patients to those under 18 as it worked to resolve supply issues.
Baxter also said it has increased allocations to 100% for certain children’s hospitals to ensure a steady supply for the most vulnerable patients.
Last month, the medical device maker reported that its North Cove facility in North Carolina had been impacted by hurricane-related flooding, leading to its temporary closure. This disruption has caused a shortage of intravenous products, including saline and dialysis solutions, in the U.S.
